Ted Cizma, Executive Chef at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan and a former Food & Wine Magazine Best New Chef in 2000, touted Michigan winemakers in today’s Detroit News.
“Cizma called himself a “fairly serious wine enthusiast,” traveling to wine regions around the world and already exploring Michigan.
“I’ve been to the local wineries to meet the winemakers and immerse myself in Michigan wines,” he said, speaking fondly of winemakers Lee Lutes at Black Star Farms and Charles Edison at Bel Lago: “They are winemakers on a par with anybody in the world.”
Even in Illinois, he said he knew about Michigan wines. He poured Larry Mawby’s sparkling wines and Black Star’s spirits at Grace Restaurant in Chicago and Ealaine in Naperville, Ill.”
