2011 Black Star Farms Pinot Noir Chardonnay

This is a unique blend of the two varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Winemaker Lee Lutes was inspired to make a still blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay after enjoying a South African wine of the same style. Often times this blend is used in sparkling wines and this is a new and limited addition to our line up of rose style wines.

Flavor and Aroma:
Rose and strawberry aromas with berry and cranberry notes on the palate followed by melon and citrus in the finish.

Aging Potential:
Enjoy this wine new or age for two or more years for a broader palate presence.

Thoughts for Food:
Interesting and complex, this wine pairs well with full flavored fish, game birds and pork dishes. We recommend tuna or salmon steaks, roasted chicken or pheasant, as well as, stuffed pork chops.

Wine Maker Comments:
This blend of two iconic varieties, which are the typical varieties for most sparkling wine in the world (if the cuvee is a blend), is so good together that we continue to play with it as a delicious still wine. There is simply something magical in the way the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay marry. The Chardonnay provides breadth and structural support, and the Pinot Noir flits around the senses with its alluring fruit and spice. This combination makes you believe it to be one of those marriages that will simply go on forever! I enjoy this wine as a summer-time aperitif, with complex and rustic appetizers, or with most any grilled fare. This is one of those wines that can work almost everywhere, so have a little fun with it and share with us where you like it best.
