Our new release, 2008 Late Harvest Riesling, will soon be our most popular tasting room wine. For those of you who know us well this will be a familiar wine. For those of you new to Black Star Farms it will surely become a classic in your cellar. It’s an easy wine to sip on its own as the concentrated fruit flavors of peach and apricot are balanced by refreshing acidity. It’s also a fabulous food wine that we recommend serving with spicy cuisine, such as chicken curry or shrimp jambalaya, or with dessert.
You will also notice a taste profile on the back label. This is a new scale designed by the International RieslingFoundation(IRF) to help you predict the level of sweetness and taste in the Riesling wine you’re interested in purchasing. The IRF was created to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of Riesling. For more information on the IRF and the new taste profile click here. Look for this taste profile scale on all our future Riesling releases.

Greetings. My name is Lisa de Vera, and I live in Wenatchee, WA. I am looking for a late harvest reisling whitewine. I am currently drinking a late harvest wine from Hermann Weimer winery New York. This particular wine has a 4.5% resid sugar and 9% alcohol. The primary reason I need this particular wine is because of the low acidity. I’m wondering if your 2007 late harvest is also low in acidity. I would much rather purchase from a winery in WA State. Please give me the information you have on this particular wine. I normally buy a case at a time (but would need to try it first). There are many others here in Wenatchee also looking for low acid wines, and I would love to share this information if this wine works for us!
Lisa,
Thanks for your inquiry. Our 2007 Late Harvest Riesling did have a lower acidity than the current vintage of 2008. However, this vintage is no longer available for sale. We do have a very nice 2007 Semidry Riesling that has 2.47% resid sugar and 11% alchohol. As a semidry style wine this does have a bit of acidity but nothing like a dry wine. Unfortunatley we are unable to ship to WA state…and many of our wines are only distributed in the Great Lakes. Are you planning a vist to Michigan? If so, you can taste our wines at any of our three tasting rooms in the Grand Traverse Bay area. Best wishes on finding that perfect late harvest wine!
