Tastes of Black Star FarmsTASTES of Black Star Farms is housed in one of North America’s largest and most innovative redevelopment projects the Village at Grand Traverse Commons . Only a mile from downtown Traverse City, this project preserves history and green space while promoting a community of businesses and residences. Located in the Mercato the tasting bar and bistro offers samples and retail sales of Black Star Farms’ wines and brandies in addition to vodkas and whiskeys from Grand Traverse Distillery. Appetizers and home baked desserts are on the menu daily during business hours and extend into the evening after 5 pm when Matterhorn Grill dinners are also available. The Matterhorn Grill Dinner is a simple and traditional European-style meal of Leelanau Cheese Company’s award-winning raclette cheese melted and poured over a selection of table-top grilled meat, sausages, potatoes, fresh vegetables, apples, and hearth-baked bread. Dinner is paired with your selection of samples of Black Star wines.
Matterhorn Grill meals feature Leelanau Cheese Company raclette cheese and liberal wine samples. They are offered for $50 per couple Tuesday to Saturday nights. Seating for groups of 2-12 is limited, and reservations are necessary. This can be a romantic dinner for two secluded in one of our cozy nooks, or a festive evening for a group. For the connoisseur and collector of fine barrel aged spirits we also provide the opportunity to make your own whiskey. We stock empty barrels in 1, 2 and 3 liter sizes, and you can pick from among five un-aged Grand Traverse Distillery spirits. These include two styles of bourbon, a 100% rye as well as Irish or Scotch blends. Simply fill your barrel, age to your taste and amaze your friends with your own distinctive spirit. Mondays are open mic night at TASTES. If you can carry a tune stop by and show us your stuff from 6:00 to 8:30pm. Even if you can’t sing there’s plenty of wine and free live music. From November through June, the Mercato is home to a Saturday indoor farmers market from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., and TASTES is open early for tastes and sales of our local farm products which include homemade Black Star Farms granola, verjus, wine, brandies, and scones. TASTES is open: Monday from 5 pm to 9 pm Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 am to 7 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 9 p.m. TASTES is available for private events, receptions and parties.
