Suttons Bay Vineyard and Black Star FarmsBlack Star Farms has an abiding passion for local food that has grown as we have grown.

As a winery, our first act was to plant vineyards, and the grapes we make into wines reflect the character of the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas, support many hard-working farmers, and help to preserve our area’s agricultural landscape. We don’t stop at grapes & wine either. In addition to fruit wines and cider, our distillery produces a range of eaux de vie (fruit brandies) from cherries, apples, pears, raspberries and other fruits of Northern Michigan.

Black Star Farms Executive Chef Jonathan Dayton

“The beauty of Black Star Farms in a culinary sense is that what I cook revolves first & foremost around the availability of the ingredients that are outside my kitchen door.”
~Executive Chef Jonathan Dayton

Our Hearth & Vine Restaurant reflects Executive Chef Jonathan Dayton’s philosophy to use the freshest foods from local sources and our own farm estate. The menu changes with the cycle of the year, incorporating the best ingredients from our property, augmented by a wide range of local area farms and producers.

Black Star Farms supports our local fisheries through our Friday night Great Lakes Fish Boils that feature fresh, Lake Michigan whitefish & trout. In addition to being family friendly and delicious, the fish boils help to preserve a vital piece of the culinary heritage of the northern Great Lakes.

We also offer a monthly chance to take the local & seasonal ethic to a whole new level with our extraordinary Harvest Dinners at the Inn at Black Star Farms.  These six-course meals are each inspired by one or two ingredients featured in every course and paired with Black Star Farms wines.

We hope that you will join us at Black Star Farms to experience the harmony between wine, food and Northern Michigan and that you will also join us in our support of Taste the Local Difference.
